Syllabus
Welcome to my Spanish1 class. I am looking forward to meeting all of you and introducing you to the many wonderful aspects of the Spanish language. This will be a very exciting year for all of us. Let’s learn from each other and prepare to expand our knowledge!
Goals and Objectives:
The main goals and objectives for this class will be to:
· Learn mechanics of Spanish.
· Incorporate the four components of language (listening, reading, writing, speaking)
· Learn geography of Spanish-speaking countries.
· Develop a greater awareness of cultures among Spanish-speaking countries.
· Provide a solid foundation for students continuing on to Spanish II.
· You will be tested over grammar concepts as well as end of chapter tests.
· You will be required to participate in individual and/or group activities.
· You are expected to come to class ready to participate, learn, and be a responsible and mature young adult. Be prepared with your textbook, notebook, writing utensils, homework and a good attitude every day!
· Because acquiring a language also happens outside of the classroom, on your own time:
Class structure:
We will be using the Spanish textbook “Español Santillana 1.” For the fall semester, we will cover units 1-4. For the spring semester, we will cover units 5-8. In addition, I will provide you with various activities and projects to supplement our textbook.
Required Materials:
· Spanish I textbook.
· 1-Subject Notebook PLEASE use this only for this class!
· Writing utensil (pen or pencil)
Integrity in the classroom:
Integrity of scholarship is essential for an academic community; this means that all academic work will be done by the individual to whom it is assigned.
Procedures & Policies
Attendance:
Prompt and regular attendance is expected. Students must make arrangements for makeup work on the day he/she returns to school.
Grading:
You will be graded on classwork, quizzes, oral presentations, exams and projects. Grades are usually posted 24 hours after an assignment has been turned in. It is your responsibility to ensure you are aware of all your grades and/or missed assignments.
*Final exams: 25%
At the end of the fall and spring semesters, students will be taking our district’s final semester assessment which accounts for 25% of the overall semester grade.
Evaluation:
Late Work: Work not turned in on the due date will be accepted the following day for 2 points off.
Leaving the classroom: In order to leave the class you must have a pass.
Be back within the time given. Bathroom passes will have a time limit of 3-4 minutes. If you take longer than the allotted time, you will terminate your privilege to use the bathroom for the remainder of the semester.

- You are strongly encouraged to listen to Spanish (radio, music, television, etc.) and speak with family or friends.
- You are strongly encouraged to skim/read advertisements, magazines, music, online news sources, books and other reading materials in Spanish or about the Spanish-speaking world.
- You are strongly encouraged to use online apps such as Quizlet.com

- 5 Daily work per 6 weeks 40%
